Clitheroe Concerts Society

This concert will take place at 7:30pm in the Ribble Valley Council Chamber, Church Street, Clitheroe and not at our usual venue.

There are no tickets. As the Council Chamber is not licensed for music, we are not allowed to charge for admission. However, we sincerely hope that all those attending will make a donation to help cover the costs.

Robert Heard was born in Ebbw Vale and brought up in Leicestershire, studying piano and violin and taking advantage of the county’s thriving youth music scene. He read music at Cambridge University, then studied violin with David Martin at the Royal Academy of Music. His first orchestral job was with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra where he remained for five years, followed by a three-year period in Belgium with Brussels Opera. He then joined the Philharmonia as Principal 2nd Violin, and also played in St Martin’s Chamber Ensemble, maintaining his relationship with the ensemble from 1989-98. In 1990 he was invited to join the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra by Sir Simon Rattle as Deputy Leader.

Robert has also appeared as guest leader with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Northern Sinfonia. In addition to his work with the CBSO, Robert also plays with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and gives regular chamber concerts with Pro-Musica and in the CBSO Centre Stage Series. He maintains a busy life style touring the world with the CBSO and whenever possible playing all over the country to fulfil his love of chamber music.

Chamber music has dominated Louise Williams‘ career. She joined the Endellion quartet as a founding member in 1979 , and in 1987, returning from travels in India and a year as a gardener, she joined the Chilingirian quartet as violist. In 1994, after a gap of several years to raise children, she returned to music, playing as a guest with the Takacs quartet and many others, and began a long and fruitful relationship with the Lindsays with whom she played up to their final farewell concerts. She was also a member of the Raphael Ensemble (sextet), has played and recorded with the pianist David Owen Norris and is currently a member of the Frith piano quartet and the group Arpège, (flute viola harp horn).

Louise plays a Brothers Amati viola made in Cremona in 1616. She has recorded the complete Bartok and Dvorak Quartets with the Chilingirian, Mozart and Beethoven quintets with the Lindsays, and a CD of Bridge viola pieces. Louise lives in London and Paris, and plans eventually to grow vegetables in Limousin.
