In June 2006 we held our first Summer Concert, with a very brief AGM at the interval. Members were invited to bring friends as guests. This was such a success that we have repeated it each year since.
The Summer Concert is additional to our series of six winter concerts. By kind permission of the Mayor, the concert is held in the Ribble Valley Borough Council Chamber. The chamber is acoustically well suited to chamber music – well it would be, wouldn’t it? As the chamber is not licensed for music we are not allowed to charge for admission. However, we sincerely hope that those attending will make a donation to help cover the costs. Refreshments are served at the interval.
Anybody may attend; those not invited by a member will be regarded as guests of the Chairman. Guests are simply asked not to speak or vote at the AGM, which takes place at the interval. Reports are circulated to members beforehand and taken as read, while nominations for officers and committee are arranged beforehand. Consequently the AGM will be completed in LESS THAN 4 minutes. Because the AGM is over so quickly, we hope that neither non-members, nor members for that matter, will be deterred from attending.
